Sept 30/20 Update: Victoria Chamber Orchestra Plays On
Yariv Aloni will lead the Victoria Chamber Orchestra in launching their 2020/21 season, online. Sunday October 18, 7:30 PM at victoriachamberorchestra.org
The online concert will be produced by Lumera Productions with the cooperation of First Metropolitan United Church.
Two works are featured: Leoš Janáček’s Idyll for String Orchestra and Julius Klengel’s Serenade for Strings, performed by two string ensembles of 16 socially distanced musicians.
Idyll for String Orchestra: Composed in 1878. Sounds of Moravian and Slavic folk music are elegantly interwoven into a seven-movement work by 24-year-old Janáček. Serenade for Strings: Composed in 1890. Klengel was an important cellist and teacher; a native of Leipzig who was considered a master of chamber music in his day. This is music of the Romantic period with a comforting message, presented by musicians of the Victoria Chamber Orchestra (VCO), now in its 26th season.
The VCO has grown musically and technically for more than a quarter century. Players come from all walks of life; several are music teachers. We have two main mandates: the promotion and advancement of string orchestra music in our community and the support of young string players in the region. All members of the orchestra are volunteers who are honoured to have the chance to share our love of making music with audiences, live and – during these challenging times – online.
